Blog Archive: January 2016

Written by Program Director, Deb Crockett

As we begin 2016, some of our valued staff members and friends have moved on to new ventures. Others remain a part of our team, but have assumed new roles. We’d like our friends and partners to know about these changes at Angelic Organics Learning Center.

Liz Whitehurst (our On-farm Program Director) and Spencer Ellsworth (our Urban Farm Manager in Rockford) moved back to the Washington, DC area to start Owl’s Nest Farm, a cooperative CSA farm. They’re sad to leave the farm community at AOLC, but excited about this new adventure. Check out...

Angelic Organics Learning Center became a trustee on Kiva Zip in 2015. Kiva Zip is an online platform that helps small businesses acquire 0% interest loans from a pool of donors across the country. We’d love to share the follow-up story of Three Sisters Community Farm. We are also currently looking for farm businesses to endorse on Kiva Zip in 2016.

Angelic Organics Learning Center and the Upper Midwest CRAFT farmer alliance launched the Beginning Farmer of the Year in 2013 in order to celebrate and promote new sustainable farmers. The winner of this award then honors an experienced farmer (the Mentor Farmer of the Year) who generously mentored them. These awards are now sponsored by Routes to Farm and the farmer alliances of the greater Chicago foodshed. Winners get cash, recognition at Good Food Festival, and more! Nominations are due by January 31st!
