Roots & Wings Summer Reflections

As the summer comes to an end I asked the Youth leaders and young adults from the Blackhawk Courts community to reflect on some of their experiences over this summer with the Roots & Wings program. Here is what they had to say:

Milca St. Fleurose (Age 16, Youth Leader Apprentice)

"One experience that I’ve had through the Roots & Wings program this summer is going out to Pecatonica IL, and seeing Andy Hazzard’s farm. I have a love for nature so seeing all the green fields and feeling the fresh summer breeze makes me happy, as well as doing something that makes a difference."

Casharia Smith (Age 13, Youth Leader)

"My summer has been fun because I love to farm and have fun with my co-workers. I have great teachers and enjoy the field trips."

Jamere (Age 15, Youth Leader)

I" liked going to Anderson Gardens and seeing the teahouse, the guesthouse, and feeding the koi fish. I have had a great time this summer and I’m looking forward to returning next year."

Joshua Block (Age 15, Youth Leader)

"The best experience I had this summer was learning and understanding about how the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) works. This includes harvesting processing and delivering the vegetables in the CSA."

Because of their hard work and diligence, this summer has been full of many successes and accomplishments. We appreciate all of you who have supported the work we are doing in Rockford. None of it would have been possible without your assistance.
