Training the Next Generation of Family Farmers

Irish Grove Farm, Stateline Farm Beginnings, Angelic Organics, farmer trainingThe Illinois Food, Farm, & Jobs Act has called for support of programs that recruit, train, and provide technical assistance to beginning farmers in order to meet the demand for 5,000 more local farmers in Illinois by 2020. Angelic Organics Learning Center has been fulfilling that role by training farmers for the past ten years. Our Stateline Farm Beginnings® program is proud to announce the next class starting in October 2014. Applications can be found here.

People who enroll in Stateline Farm Beginnings receive a comprehensive training program focusing exclusively on sustainable agriculture. Students join a community of over 80 local family farms from the Upper Midwest CRAFT Network (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training) and attend field days to witness a diverse array of farms and interact with other farmers. Graduates from Stateline Farm Beginnings (like Jackie de Batista of Irish Grove Farms, pictured at left) receive access to advanced farmer training opportunities at Angelic Organics Learning Center, including technical assistance, farm financing, and mentoring.

Applicants do not need a background in farming, only a desire to create a livelihood with a purpose, a dream for a more sustainable future, and a drive to contribute to the local food economy. For more information, call Sheri Doyel at 262-374-4903 or email her.
