Whole Foods 5% day – Farmer Training at Angelic Organics Learning Center

In a few weeks, on January 29, 2014, Angelic Organics Learning Center’s Farmer Training Initiative will be the beneficiary of a Whole Foods 5% day!

What is a 5% day, you ask??

Each Whole Foods Market partners with four local non-profits each year in order to support local initiatives. The Whole Foods Market in Kildeer, IL, has chosen AOLC’s farmer training initiative as one of their four local initiatives! Therefore, AOLC will receive 5% of the day’s sales on January 29, 2014.

This is a huge honor and opportunity to raise money to help AOLC continue to provide farmer-training programs for beginning farmers.

How can you help?

Simple! Do all of your grocery shopping at Whole Foods Market - Kildeer on January 29, 2014. That’s it!! We’d also love for you to come visit our booth that day as well.

Where does the money actually go?

Below are the ways that contributions to AOLC’s farmer training initiative are used:

  •  Stateline Farm Beginnings - an 8-month long farming entrepreneurship course. Funds go to administer and vover the costs of the 3 components of the course: farm business planning seminars, on-farm field days, and one-on-one mentorships.
  •  The Farm Asset Builder Program - a matched-savings program that provides financial training and financial support for beginning farmers. Funds are used to provide the savings match, provide financial education, and administer the program.
  •  The CRAFT network, which stands for the Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training. CRAFT is a group of about 100 farms in the upper Midwest that are dedicated to helping each other out and working to train new farmers. Funds are needed to publish the annual CRAFT handbook, facilitate field days, and administer the network.
  •  Technical Assistance, which includes paying consultants and experienced farmers for their time to help beginning farmers with some advanced farming techniques.
  •  Other workshops, events, and administrative costs

We hope to see you on January 29, 2014! Come grocery shop with us, and spread the word! For Twitter, please use hashtag: #5PercentForFarmers
