Environmental Education Celebration

On June 11, we celebrated the final day of our year-long program “Engaging Youth as Peer Educators in Creating a Healthy Food System,” partially funded by a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency. The day-long event celebrated a year of work with 10 schools to teach skills in environmental education to youth peer educators. For our celebration, students visited and toured farm, cooked goat-cheese pizzas in the earth oven, salad from fresh farm vegetables, and ice cream from goat’s milk and mulberries! Students also helped with the first round of painting on a food systems mural, inspired by drawings from youth at participating schools, a brainstorming session with the Eco-Advocate young adult group, and Youth Leaders from the Roots & Wings program. Youth Leaders also helped direct the day’s events, working with the visiting students and helping Learning Center staff prep and lead activities!
