The award will support our work with youth and adult leadership teams to build community food security in Rockford,  Illinois. The Learning Center's programming in Rockford has grown out of the plans, visions, and talents of the Roots & Wings network, a growing community of practice that links neighborhoods youth and adult leaders, food planning associations, community-based organizations, and other partners. Youth Leaders in the Roots & Wings network work together to plan, plant, tend, harvest, cook, and sell from their gardens. The Youth Leaders are active in the city of Rockford, selling vegetables at farmer's markets and helping plan city-wide events, including the upcoming Rockford Fall Harvest Celebration. The Youth Leaders inform their work with trips to the Learning Center's farm and Chicago locations.
