In the news: "Dea Dia Organics Thrives in a Booming Farm Economy"

Dea Dia Organics, owned and operated by Stateline Farm Beginnings graduates and Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training (CRAFT) member farmers Jeff and Jen Miller, was featured in Medill Reports in late 2010, in an article accompanied by a video interview.

"We knew we wanted to have our own business, a business that my wife and I could own and operate," said (Jeff) Miller. "We thought, if we could pick anything and leave money aside, farming was the one thing we kept coming back to."

The Millers have been able to start their dream organic farm business thanks to their hard work and dedication, increased consumer demand for organic farm goods, and some assistance from the Learning Center's regional farmer training partner, and farm incubation program at Prairie Crossing Farm. Through their Farm Business Development Center, Prairie Crossing offers new farmers like the Millers access to land in peri-urban areas at more affordable rates, leasing land at $100/acre as opposed to the market rate of $150/acre in the surrounding area.

Dea Dia Organics now offers CSA shares, and sells at farmers markets. Read the full story and watch the video at Medill Reports.
